Ashley Connor is one of the first smiles you see when you walk into our Cancer Center. Here, she shares a few thoughts about why she loves her job as receptionist.
What motivates you to come to work each day?
No one plans for cancer. I come in every day and want to make what could be a difficult experience more tolerable for patients and their caregivers.
How do you create a positive experience for patients at the Cancer Center?
I greet everyone with a smile, and I learn their names. I hope to turn their insecurities into a more positive experience. Sometimes I bring bouquets of flowers to the reception desk just so people will have a reason to smile.
What’s the best part about your job?
It's interesting. I've met all sorts of different personalities and I just love all the relationships I've made. I'm a hugger. I hug everyone. A hug can change anyone's bad day. And when patients are at the end of their treatments, I celebrate with them. They have become my friends.
